The Experience of Receiving Shamanic Healing

There are two ways to receive shamanic healing - in person and long distance. Both are equally effective.

In most cases, people who live locally prefer to come in for healing work. The experience of receiving shamanic healing in-person is typically an unusual mixture of relaxing, energetically stimulating, and empowering. Although each person's experience is unique, there do seem to be some common experiences that people report such as the sensation of floating, the lifting of heaviness from the solar plexus, and a strong sense of peace.

The experience of receiving long distance healing is much different. The best way for me to describe it is that I'm consciously having a healing dream for the person in need. The dream, which is usually quite powerful, is filled with personal symbolism and messages. Sometimes these symbols make absolutely no sense to me but make perfect sense to the person receiving them.

Since long distance healing work is what I get asked most about, I'll go into a little more detail regarding how it works. The request for long distance healing begins with an initial conversation by phone or email including the scheduling of a follow-up telephone conversation. I do the healing work in between. Because my schedule can be a little crazy I don't usually give the exact time I'm doing the healing work, but can give a general idea.

The healing itself begins with a small ceremony where I connect with my spirit helpers. After my opening ceremony I enter a trance state and "journey" to the spirit world carrying with me the request for healing and/or information. Once in the spirit world I'll see the dreambody of the person requesting healing. We'll chat for a bit and then I invite my spirit helpers in to do the work. They assess the situation and do the healing. It's an amazing process to witness. While all this is going on I observe as much as I can so that I can relay the information back. Afterwards I run (maybe it's more like a fast walk) to the computer so that I can record everything I perceived before the experience begins to fade. The person requesting healing gets a copy of this.

What I've noticed in the years I've been doing this work is that the effects of both long distance and in-person healing tends to be subtle and takes a little time to settle in. It seems rare that someone's symptoms clear up immediately. Instead what people typically say a few days or weeks after receiving healing is that their symptoms "seem to be gone" or are significantly reduced. I believe this has to do with the energetic nature of this type of healing. The way I explain the delay is that the new, healthier energetic patterns take time to translate from the energy body to the physical body.

Regardless of the type of healing, I believe the most important component of a successful healing is intention. Before embarking on any healing work I like to spend some time discussing what the person's wishes for healing are. With a clear intention, shamanic healing can serve as a tremendous "jump start" to someone's personal healing journey.

Please keep in mind that these are only my experiences. Other shamanic practitioners might go about this work differently.
